I found this one by fluke. This is a one-man project. A TikTokker, Blake Coddington, who started making music during the Panama as an outlet for his mental health. And I found him because I was doing a search to see if I could find an on-the-nose submission for an upcoming round of my Music League. And not only was the song a bop, but it was the title track and opener for Letdown’s debut album, “Crying In The Shower”.
The album is short - 7 tracks clocking in at just over 23 minutes, total. So it’s easy to digest, but also just over too soon, and the longest track is only 3:33. That’s really the biggest reason I can’t consider a higher score.
It’s solid pop rock with a lot less emphasis on the pop in most of the tracks, though a couple of songs have very AJR-esque hooks or are reminiscent of something you might expect from Imagine Dragons. The title track carries some pop punk vibes, and other tracks, like “Karma”, utilize some electronic elements to good effect. All told, I’m very happy with this accidental discovery.
