Doom Metal is one of my weaknesses. And it’s something I’ve had trouble finding more of - there aren’t a ton of Doom bands out there (finding some variant of Death Metal is easier), and it’s not a super popular genre. And then several use Death-style harsh vocals (see Post-Metal/Doom band Cult of Luna).
Thus, Isole is a rare find. “Anesidora” is exceptional Doom Metal, IMO, and its opener, “The Song of the Whales”, with its Gothic-influenced guitar/bass lines, is one of my favorite songs of the year so far. The whole album is low-and-slow, like cooking barbeque, and the shortest track clocks in at 5:36.
I love it. I’ll need to look up the lyrics, but this one gets Blue on sound alone.
