Isis Naija Gaston, better known as Ice Spice, is one of the hot new faces in the hip-hop scene. She was discovered by producer RiotUSA (Ephrem Lopez, Jr.) and went viral with the “Buss It” Challenge in 2021. I feel the need to point out that Gaston was born on January 1, 2000, which is why this album, her debut album, is titled Y2K!
That is, frankly, the neatest thing about it.
Y2K! is only 23 minutes long across ten tracks. That’s only about half the length of an LP, but they’re still calling this a studio album, rather than just an EP. And yet…that’s honestly a blessing.
Gaston has a nice voice, but everything on this album is basic and vapid. It leans heavily into sex, not unlike the majority of Megan Thee Stallion’s Megan, but at least MTS can write interesting verses. Seriously, I cannot possibly understate how awful these lyrics are.
The album is only 23 minutes long, and I cannot wait for it to end. What else do I need to say?
