Dark Sanctuary isn’t a band I keep tabs on because I expect mind-blowing albums. They might occasionally work in some metal elements in their composition, but at their core, they’re a Neoclassical/Symphonic Darkwave project. They make the kind of music you expect to hear on the soundtrack to an epic drama series about Vikings or or Dark Age Celts. The emphasis is on Violin and cello, predominantly, and legato vocals and vocalizations, with support from piano and a few other instruments. I can’t tell from listening what languages the vocals are in, but the titles range from Latin to French to Norse to Celtic, plus probably a couple of others that I don’t recognize.
And while the album doesn’t blow my mind, it does meet expectations, so I feel this is easily Green. It’s not going to light the world on fire, but these tracks will go great in a laid back, atmospheric playlist. If you like moody, neoclassical vibes, you’ll enjoy this. If you want something that kind of borders on dark and witchy or feels very archaic-but-intense, epic-but-soft, give this one a listen.
