This one is…special. lol
100 gecs is a hyperpop duo. And I’ll need to find some other hyperpop to really begin to understand what that actually means. But it sounds like ADHD personified had a child with the personification of the phrase “Everything AND the kitchen sink”. The MAIN influences here seem to be techno/electronic and punk. With a touch of literally everything else. Including Looney Tunes.
And it actually starts off pretty well. “Dumbest Girl Alive”, “Hollywood Baby, “Frog on the Floor”, and “Doritos and Fritos” are all actually kinda legit bops. In their own way. That’s four of the first five songs. The album is ten tracks long, and only 27 minutes long. Track two is alright, but 6-9 get gradually worse, then 10 is back to the ‘alright’ level.
So with only four songs I wouldn’t mind hearing again and no cohesive album concept, this one is Red. Like, I’m glad they had fun making it. It’s just not something I would recommend for anybody as a whole album.
